About the Montclair, New Jersey Area 

Located about 12 miles west of New York, Montclair is often referred to as a western suburb of NYC. It attracts many buyers looking for the close proximity to the city, while offering larger homes, yards and the quiet yet vibrant feel of a suburban community. 

Schools:  

Montclair ‘s largest shopping, restaurant and entertainment areas are on Bloomfield Avenue and Church Street. Here you’ll find everything from upscale restaurants to Raymond’s, the local’s favorite diner. The Wellmont Theater was recently renovated, currently bringing in top concerts -- everything from folk to rock.  

Upper Montclair is north of Bloomfield Avenue. This is where you’ll find favorite chain shops like William Sonoma, Gap and Starbucks, interspersed with locally owned restaurants and boutique s.  

The architecture in the town is mostly 1900-1940’s Victorians and Colonials. On the tree-lined streets of Upper Mountain and Highland Avenue you’ll find larger homes with spectacular views of the NYC skyline.  

The largest park, Brookdale, is minutes from anywhere in the town. It’s more than 40 acres housing tennis courts, running trails, playgrounds, fields, and an outdoor stadium with a running track.  

Montclair has a unique magnet system in which each school has a different theme, allowing parents and students to choose an area of strength or interest such as science and technology, environmental studies, the arts, and global studies.  

Without a doubt, one of the best reasons to live in Northern New Jersey is ease of commute into the city while still enjoying the many benefits of suburban living. Whether commuting for work or play, you’ll find these schedules invaluable. 

Montclair also offers a Jitney service, providing commuters rides to the train station for a small fee.
