About the Summit, New Jersey Area 

Summit is tucked into the hills of the Watchung Reservation and sits at an elevation of 410 feet. In the 19th Century it served as a getaway for New Yorkers, and has since become a destination for those looking to live in close proximity to New York while still enjoying the qualities of suburban living.  

Downtown Summit is a vibrant area with pedestrian friendly, tree-lined streets. Its group of restaurants sitting along the main street have been referred to as “restaurant row,” and in the warm months offer a European flair with outside seating for up to 200 people. Food experiences range from a quick inexpensive bite to upscale continental, Italian and French cuisine.  

If you’re looking to exercise, the YMCA is a must see. It houses two indoor pools, one Olympic size. It has a large workout area, tennis courts and a rock-climbing wall – just to name a few of many amenities.  

The homes in Summit are mostly Victorian and Colonial style. You can also find condominiums and rentals throughout the town. The town’s northeastern section offers grand colonials, usually set back on lots of at least one acre or more. Housing in that area is popular as it’s a short walk or bike ride to the train station.  

The pride of Summit is its public school system. Graduation rates are high, with over 90% of students going to college.
